David Sparks, Director

We are anxious to get our students active and involved in sports and athletics at MWMS! But we must think first of safety for our kids, coaches, and families!

The State and our School District have established protocols for getting us back on the field and court which we will follow.

This includes daily attestations for each player as they attend an after-school session. Temperatures will be taken, and the rules enforced every day. Players will be in small groups and must wear masks when not actively involved in competition.  Players and coaches must adhere to these.

There will be no games with other schools this spring. All our athletics will be training/clinic practices with the goal of enhancing skills and having fun while being active. Our coaches will teach sport specific skills that will prepare athletes for competition at the high school level. Scrimmages will be a big part of this.

Practices will be every day but Wednesday. If you attend MW on M/Th or T/F you will be expected to be there on those days.

The district will not provide transportation, so all participants will need to be picked up or walk home at the end of practice. Coaches will provide a schedule with practice beginning and end times. Some coaches may offer Wednesday practices if participation numbers are large and athletes can attend.

Athletes will not pay sport/ASB fees this year but must have a form on file showing they have had a PHYSICAL EXAMINATION from a doctor within the past two years. Normally this is one year, but it has been extended due to the pandemic. If your athlete hasn’t had a physical within two years, please get this done as early as possible – they cannot participate in any way without this being done.

We start March 1 with Flag Football (co-ed) and Volleyball (girls only). Players will meet on the football field for football, and in the gym for volleyball. Keep your social distance as you are checked in with your coaches!

Locker rooms are not available, so if you need to change (as most volleyball players should), please use the restrooms in the Commons. Only four people at a time in restrooms, so use your lanyards just as you do during the school day to track how many kids are using the restroom at one time!

Practice does not start officially until 3:00, so students will have time to change.

Season 2 will begin the day we return from Spring Break, April 12th! This will be Boys’ Basketball and Soccer (girl’s only).

Season 3 will be Girls’ Basketball and Track/Cross Country and starts on May 10th. Track/Cross Country will be having an in-district meet versus John Sedgwick MS and Cedar Heights MS in early June to end the sports season.

WE hope to see you participating! Exercise and Activities are essential for everyone, so let’s get out and play.
